Yes, I am indeed smarting about that question, as are, I am sure, a number of other people who have probably lost their ‘all correct’ record over it and who, like me, based their decision to use the uppercase B on the equally sound argument that the Bass of the word we kept must be in upper case according to Chambers – I still think that should have overridden any consideration of the Cyrillic alphabet.

It seems to me to be very dodgy territory indeed.

I understand that KOHB was rejected on the grounds that B in Russian is pronounced V but isn’t KOHb pronounced KOHN?
This is dodgy territory. Once upon a time the capital of China was Anglicized as PEKING as that’s the way it sounded to our forefathers. We now think that BEIJING is nearer the mark but I suppose Sabre would have us enter a Mandarin character almost resembling one of our letters:-)
