Listener 4105: Out to Work by Charybdis

Posted by erwinch on 15 Oct 2010

A welcome return for one of my favourite setters who this time gave us variations on Jack.
Just one clue gave me any problems (23ac) although the answer was clearly quarry:
Victim came round this diamond mine? (6)
I can see three definitions: victim, diamond and mine but how does came round this fit in?  [Edit: I see from Charybdis on the CC MB that came or calm also means a lead rod that frames a pane in a window so the second definition is came round this diamond.]
We were to deduce what would happen when the box was opened and I offer this alternative solution:
With Jack Plug sticking his nose in, the springs are impeded and the scallywag stays put.
